Middle level of ICT Integration

On 14th April, 2024 we learned about PhET simulation which can be integrated in the teaching and learning. I learned that it is very important to to learn about PhET simulation because it not only gives us the practical experience of doing things but also reduces the risk and provides safety factors for the students in their learning. With the shift in the education paradigm PhET simulation in our current education system can be used to provide students with hands on experience and from my experience in learning PhET simulation I felt that through Integrating Simulations in our teaching we can help our students connect to real world like for instance when we learned circuit through PhET simulation it provides the real world knowledge on the importance of circuit. Furthermore, through PhET simulation I learned that it also supports and promotes exploration in designing creativity in an individual.

PhET simulation of Circuit

As per my understanding  middle level of ICT integration is defined as a stage where technology is being used more extensively in various aspects of teaching and learning, beyond just basic tasks. At this level educators are incorporating technologies into their lessons in a more meaningful way, such as using interactive tools, multimedia resources and online collaboration platforms to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. It involves a deeper integration of ICT into the curriculum and instructional practices, moving beyond simply using technology as a tool to incorporating it as a fundamental part of the teaching and learning process.

Now, I will take you through my lesson plan in which middle level of ICT Integration through PhET simulation is included:

Lesson Plan

Class- III

Subject- Math's

Topic- Comparing Numbers

Lesson Objectives

By the end of the lesson the student will be able to.

a.       compare numbers using PhET simulation accurately after teachers’ demonstration,

b.      write the numerical relationship between numbers precisely after teachers’ explanation,

c.       share two importance of basic mathematical operations in a digital environment correctly after the activity.

Material: Computers, internet, projector, Phet simulation game, handouts for guided practice and assessment

Prior Knowledge: They know about Numbers and counts.

Lesson Introduction

-          I will greet the students and use a video from YouTube as energizer to start the class. Then I will start the class by asking the students about their understand of numbers and ask few students to volunteer to come Infront and I will use the board to write two numbers and the students compare which number is greater than the other. Then I will begin the class by introducing the topic of comparing numbers to the students and explaining the concept.

Lesson Development

-          Then I will discuss the importance of comparing numbers in mathematics and everyday life. Then I will explain that today the students will use PhET simulation game to explore and practice comparing numbers in a digital environment.

-          After that I will ask one student to repeat my instruction and then start the whole class demonstration where I will project the PhET simulation number comparing game on the screen and guide the students through the features of the simulation, including how to compare, adjust the scale and how to change the number in the game.

-          Then I will demonstrate the use of PhET simulation and discuss the concept of distance and relationship between numbers.

Activity

-          Then I will divide the class into pairs and then let them compare different numbers using the PhET simulation game and later share their findings to the whole class with reasonings and strategies they used. I will ask one student to repeat my instructions and circulate the room to help and guidance as students work through the comparison.

Follow up Activity

-          For this I will ask the students to individually write town the two importance of basic mathematical operations in a digital environment correctly after the use of PhET simulation in the previous activity and then supplement on their findings.

Assessment

-          I will tell the students to open google docs and there I will provide digital quiz of the PhET simulation game of comparing numbers and assess them through it.

Lesson closure

-          To conclude the session, I will bring the class together for a summarization of the concept learned and provide questions as homework to be solved.
